Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 29, 2026  ·  Last Updated: April 15, 2026

SchoolBrief.ai is a voice-first AI service that summarizes school communication emails for parents. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains exactly what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

1. Who We Are

SchoolBrief.ai is operated by Waypoint Labs, LLC, doing business as SchoolBrief ("SchoolBrief," "we," "us," or "our"), based in Zionsville, Indiana. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. What Information We Collect

Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth — we never see your plain text password).

Family Profile
To personalize your digest, you provide your children's first names, grade levels, school name, and teacher names. You choose what to share — last names and other identifying information are not required.

School Emails You Forward
When you set up email forwarding, school communications sent to your SchoolBrief forwarding address are received and processed by our system. We store the content of these emails temporarily to generate your digest.

Voice Assistant Data
If you connect your Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant account, we store a voice assistant user ID to link your account. We do not receive recordings of your voice or audio from your devices.

Payment Information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number. We store only your Stripe customer ID for subscription management.

Usage Data
We collect basic usage data including when digests are generated, how many emails were processed, and error logs. This helps us improve the service.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except as described in Section 5.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

SchoolBrief is a service for parents and guardians — not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. The information you provide about your children (first names, grade, school, teacher name) is provided by you as a parent and is used solely to personalize your digest. We do not create profiles of children, we do not share children's information with third parties, and we do not use children's information for any purpose other than generating your family's digest.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

5. Who We Share Data With

We share data only with the following service providers, and only as necessary to operate SchoolBrief:

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any other third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.

6. Data Retention

7. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard security practices including:

No system is perfectly secure. If you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses only essential cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or similar tracking services.

10. Voice Assistants

When you use SchoolBrief through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, your interaction is subject to Amazon's and Google's respective privacy policies. We receive only the information necessary to identify your account and return your digest. We do not receive voice recordings or audio from your devices.

11. Google API Services and Limited Use

The short version: If you connect Gmail, we only read emails that match the senders you explicitly flag in your Family Details. Personal, work, banking, and every other kind of email is never retrieved. Read-only. No humans browse your inbox. Disconnect any time.

Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

You control which emails we see. SchoolBrief does not scan your entire inbox. In your Family Details page, you maintain a list of "School Email Senders" — specific domains (e.g. @yourschool.k12.us) or phrases (e.g. via ParentSquare). Our polling query requests only messages matching that list. Messages outside your list are never retrieved from Gmail, never stored by SchoolBrief, and never seen by our systems. If your list is empty, we retrieve nothing.

Technical access: When you connect Gmail, you grant SchoolBrief read-only access via the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly scope. Google enforces this scope — our systems are literally incapable of sending, modifying, or deleting any of your email, regardless of what our code tries to do.

What we do with matching emails: The text of each matching email is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic Claude) to generate your personalized daily digest, which is delivered via the SchoolBrief dashboard and Alexa. Anthropic does not train models on data received through their commercial API.

What we do NOT do with Gmail data:

Storage and retention: Raw content of matching school emails is stored for up to 30 days to support digest generation, then permanently deleted. OAuth tokens (access and refresh) are stored encrypted in our database and are used only to fetch new emails on your behalf.

Revoking access: You can disconnect Gmail at any time from your SchoolBrief dashboard. You can also revoke access directly through your Google Account permissions page. When you disconnect, we stop polling Gmail immediately and delete the stored OAuth tokens within 30 days.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email and by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SchoolBrief after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
