Why this matters: SchoolBrief works from the emails that land in your inbox. But many school apps default to push notifications only — or a stripped-down digest — and never actually send you a real email. If nothing arrives in your inbox, there's nothing for SchoolBrief to forward. This page helps you confirm the email tap is turned on at the source.
The short version: open each school app your family uses, find its notification settings, and make sure email is switched on. Each platform does this a little differently and changes its menus over time — so rather than give you steps that go stale, we link you straight to each platform's own official, always-current guide.
What to expect once forwarding is live: your first week is real-time — every batch of forwarded emails updates your dashboard within 15 minutes. After that, you'll get your daily 5 AM morning brief, plus automatic dashboard updates throughout the day whenever new emails come in.
PS
ParentSquare
The catch: defaults to a once-a-day digest

New ParentSquare accounts usually default to Digest — one roundup email each evening — rather than Instant. Digest is fine for most posts: the day's messages still arrive with their full text. You mainly want to confirm email notifications aren't switched off entirely.

One important ParentSquare quirk: external newsletters posted to ParentSquare — the visual weekly updates built in tools like Smore — come through email almost empty: just a title and a "view in browser" link, no real content. That happens whether you're on Instant or Digest. For those, use the SchoolBrief web clipper to capture the full newsletter. Regular ParentSquare posts are unaffected.

ClassDojo
The catch: the app replaces email entirely

ClassDojo sends either push notifications or email — not both. If you have the ClassDojo app installed on your phone, you're getting push notifications and no email is being sent, which means nothing reaches SchoolBrief. Their guide explains how email notifications work and when they're sent.

Seesaw
The catch: email can be set to "Never"

Seesaw family accounts can have email notifications set to All, Once a Day, or Never. If a family member set it up through the app, email is often left off. You want it on All or Once a Day — their guide shows where that setting lives.

Schoology
The catch: the parent email digest is off by default

Schoology's Parent Email Digest is something you have to actively turn on — a brand-new parent account won't email you anything until you opt in. Their guide covers turning the digest on and confirming your email address is verified to receive it.

Canvas
The catch: email settings live on the website, not the app

As a parent/observer in Canvas, each notification type can be set to Immediate, Daily Summary, Weekly Summary, or Never. The Canvas Parent app can't change email settings — those are managed on the Canvas website. Their observer guide walks through the notification preferences page.

Don't see your school's app here?
The same idea applies to any platform — Bloomz, Remind, PowerSchool, Smore, your district's own portal, and others. Open the app, find its notification or communication settings, and make sure email is turned on for that account. If you're not sure, the quickest test is below. And if you'd like a hand, just reply to your welcome email and John will help you sort it out.
Quick test: is email actually flowing?
Once you've checked your settings, wait for the next school post — or send yourself a test from the app if it allows it — and see whether a real email lands in your normal inbox. If it does, you're ready for the next step. If it doesn't, the email tap still isn't on.
Email is flowing? The last step is pointing those emails at SchoolBrief.

Stuck on any of this? Just reply to your welcome email — John will walk you through it personally.
